Portland House is the pioneer residential development by Progress Children's Services.

This large period property is situated on a quiet road located in the small town of Aldridge. The home has been specially adapted to cater for up to six children and young people with learning disabilities, aged from 10 to 18 years.

Our Home

Our home benefits from having spacious living areas and bedrooms. There are five bedrooms on the first floor with a further large ground floor bedroom, with en-suite bathroom which has been specifically adapted for wheelchair users.

The home has been individually designed in bright, contemporary colours, which are periodically refreshed, with matching living and bedroom furnishings, for a fresh and vibrant feel to each of the rooms.

Portland House benefits from a very large garden, with an activity area. The children have recently designed their own plots, where they can grow and manage their very own vegetables! This small project is just one of the ways we engage our children in learning life skills to take into adulthood. The garden accommodates a specially acquired cabin, where children can use computers for homework and entertainment, and also to develop learning skills on specialist software packages.

The Town

Portland House is centrally situated in Aldridge, West Midlands. The home is located within walking distance of the small town centre where children can access the local shops, library, parks, leisure facilities and medical services, including health centre, dentists and opticians. Despite its town status, Aldridge retains the benefits of village life, with community resources serving a small population.

This area affords good links into Birmingham, Sandwell, Staffordshire and Wolverhampton. Close by are the larger towns of Walsall and Sutton Coldfield, which offer a greater variety of resources for social and leisure activities including Walsall Arboretum and the grand Sutton Park.
